My Journey with Lupus
Welcome to Lupus Comforts – A Place to Feel Held, Not Helpless!
Priyashni Kumar

Welcome to Lupus Comforts, my health blog and support space, where I share my personal journey with lupus. Through my lived experience, I hope to connect with others facing similar challenges, offering comfort, strength, and understanding in a warm, inviting way.
My name is Priyashni, and I’m originally from Fiji, now living in beautiful New Zealand. In 2007, at the age of just 21, I was diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) — and my life changed overnight.
It was overwhelming, confusing, and honestly… terrifying. I didn’t know what to expect or where to turn. But over time, I learned to navigate this unpredictable illness. I’ve gone on to raise a family, grow in my career, and find ways to manage my physical and emotional wellbeing. Through it all, I discovered a deep strength I never knew I had.
If you’re newly diagnosed with a chronic illness like lupus, supporting a loved one through it, or simply looking for encouragement — please know this: you are not alone!
Through my Lupus Comforts YouTube channel and blog, I share:
- My personal stories and struggles
- Practical tips for living with lupus
- Gentle comfort for flare-up days
- And most of all… hope for brighter days ahead
I created this space to raise awareness of what it’s truly like living with a chronic autoimmune condition, and to remind others that a fulfilling life is still possible, even with lupus.
So, whether you’re here to learn, to feel supported, or to connect — you belong here.
Let’s walk this journey together.
With love and light,
Priyashni 💜
What is lupus and how does it affect me?
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that can affect various parts of the body, including the skin, joints, and organs. It causes the immune system to attack healthy tissues, leading to symptoms like fatigue, joint pain, and skin rashes. Understanding lupus is crucial for managing its impact on daily life and health.
How can I manage my lupus symptoms effectively?
Managing lupus symptoms involves a combination of medication, lifestyle changes, and self-care practices. Regular check-ups with healthcare providers, a balanced diet, exercise, and stress management techniques can significantly improve quality of life. It’s essential to listen to your body and adjust your routine as needed.
What support resources are available for lupus patients?
There are numerous support resources available for lupus patients, including online forums, local support groups, and educational websites. Connecting with others who share similar experiences can provide emotional support and valuable information. Organizations like the Lupus Foundation offer resources and community events to help patients feel less isolated.
Can diet and exercise help with lupus management?
Yes, diet and exercise play a vital role in managing lupus. A healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and omega-3 fatty acids can help reduce inflammation. Regular, low-impact exercise can improve overall health and reduce fatigue, making it easier to cope with lupus symptoms.
What are the common misconceptions about lupus?
Common misconceptions about lupus include the belief that it only affects women or that it is a rare disease. In reality, lupus can affect anyone, regardless of gender, and it is more common than many realize. Educating others about lupus is essential to dispel myths and promote understanding.
How can I connect with others who have lupus?
Connecting with others who have lupus can be done through social media groups, local support meetings, or online forums. Sharing experiences and advice can foster a sense of community and provide emotional support during challenging times.
